Grand Banks Rendezvous 2015

2015 PSGBOA Rendezvous – Thanks for Another Great Event!

Thank you to all those who attended this year’s Puget Sound Grand Banks Owners Association Rendezvous! It was a wonderful event – beautiful weather, picturesque location and of course, most importantly, a huge group of fantastic Grand Banks Owners!

If you have photos of the Rendezvous that you’d like to share, please send them to stories@psgbowners.org and we will get them up on the website!

This year’s Rendezvous attracted over 80 Grand Banks and over 200 proud owners, friends and GB enthusiasts.  For those who were unable to attend, here’s a brief recap of the event, by Leslie Simmons of Stan Miller Yachts (and PSGBOA Board Member):

{Originally posted to stanmilleryachts.com, May 21}

“The annual Puget Sound Grand Banks Rendezvous was another resounding success! This year’s event began on Wednesday, May 6th and ended Sunday, May 10th at Roche Harbor Resort and Marina, on sunny San Juan Island.

This year we were treated to eighty plus Grand Banks in attendance. Not only were there a lot of boats, there was a huge variety of Grand Banks, representing many different stages of GB’s production. The theme for this year’s event was “Celebrating Over 50 Years of Grand Banks in the Pacific NW” – so it was fitting that there was such great variety! We visited with owners of all sorts. On the “historical” side, there were two gorgeously restored Alaskans and quite a few woodies. Every decade was represented, from the 1960s to the 2000s. The oldest boats were a 1967 32 Sedan and 36 Classic, and the newest were a 2007 39 Eastbay and 2007 47 Europa. Everyone loved seeing the wide spectrum of GBs lining the docks!

The Rendezvous flew by, with a busy schedule of events. Wednesday kicked off with two seminars and a dockside Happy Hour. By Thursday, most of the attendees had arrived and things really began to groove, with more seminars, a dinghy trip to Westcott Bay Oyster Farm and a fire safety demo. The evening capped off with a bonfire on the beach and a spooky walk to the Mausoleum.

The fun continued on Friday, with Grand Banks Yachts presenting their annual company update, as well as service tips from Service Director Fran Morey. A cooking demo enticed a big part of the group up to McMillin’s Dining Room, where they feasted on Prime Rib and learned tips from Chef Bill Shaw.

Friday features a dedicated Sponsor Booth session; we loved meeting with everyone – Grand Banks owners are so proud about their boats, that it’s a treat to get to speak with them, as well as see the boats in person!

A potluck and wine tasting topped of an already fantastic Friday. On Saturday, the last day of the event, attendees had plenty of time to soak up the sun, enjoy more seminars and of course, watch the annual dog show. There’s a lot of dogs onboard GBs (and a few cats!), that’s for sure. At the end of the day on Saturday, everyone gathered on the lawn to enjoy drinks and a fantastic dinner.

A beautiful setting, wonderful people…what more could we ask for?! We look forward to the 2016 PSGBOA Grand Banks Rendezvous!”

Salish Sea Potlatch: Exposition on the 2014 Annual Rendezvous Theme

The theme of this year’s Annual Rendezvous is “Salish Sea Potlatch.” Curious? Read on.

Some definitions are in order.

Salish Sea: The body of water encompassing Desolation Sound and the Strait of Georgia, the Strait of San Juan de Fuca, and Puget Sound. The name was created by a marine biologist in 1988 to designate the above marine ecosystem and to honor the Coast Salish peoples. It is now an officially recognized title, according to learned sources. See more. http://staff.wwu.edu/stefan/salish_sea.shtml

Potlatch: A ceremonial feast given by Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest in which everyone receives a gift. The potlatch has had many uses, but here is an interesting  one that might be valuable one day. “If an important person fell off a canoe, a small but elegant and costly potlatch would be given to offset the humiliation of the fall. You could not be laughed at. You could not lose dignity.” See http://nativeamericans.mrdonn.org/northwest/potlatch.html

“Salish Sea Potlatch” will provide terrific opportunities to socialize and have fun in Fabulous Roche Harbor. Join us Thursday, May 8th through Sunday, May 11th. Mark your calendar now and stay tuned to this site for the additional information that will soon emerge.

A Video Invitation to the 2014 GB Annual Rendezvous
