But this one was very hard to ignore! Built in Anacortes…preliminary water tests in our own San Juans, she was a remarkable sight. Gave even the orcas a run for the money. And whether she’ll ever be able to actually run for the money (or rather, the America’s Cup) herself remains to be seen. Apparently there is a little disagreement about how many hulls a boat should have in order to compete in that long-standing international contest. But what a piece of work! In Seattle, it’s that time of year once again. Anyone growing up in these parts any time in the past fifty-plus years knows something about (and most are totally awed by) the “thunderboats”. No such thing as cruising speed– they go all-out the minute their motors roar. Here are a couple of pictures …

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! (6/08)
As sweet as our local cruising waters are, treachery is always just around the corner. In this case it was just around the northwest corner of Shaw Island which, a quick glance at the chart will show, is tricky territory. This sort of thing always happens just when you think you’ve got nothing to worry about. These pictures are from KOMO-TV’s chopper that was overhead minutes after the unfortunate boat-meets-rocks encounter.

It was, indeed, another fabulous weekend. The weather could not have been better. And the crowd of GBs, owners and crews was both extensive and exuberant!
