Thanksgiving 2010 – PSGBOA Style!

Hello Everyone. I just wanted to say hello and post a few pictures from our get together with other GB owners. Three families spent Thanksgiving together on the water, in our Grand Banks in Poulsbo. Ken & Cheri Bowles on their GB 42, Noah & Dominique France on their GB 32 and myself and wife Lynne on our GB 36. On Thanksgiving, we had the town of Poulsbo to ourselves and what a great time we all had. It was winter cruising at its best. The kids all had a ball which made for the perfect holiday on the water. The pictures say 1000 words and we could not have been more blessed to have enjoyed such a great weekend with family and friends.

Hope to see you at our 2011 Rendezvous in May at Roche Harbor. Happy New Year to you.

2011 Rendezvous Dates Announced!

How was your summer of cruising?  Hopefully, you’ll continue to use your Grand Banks through the fall and winter.  Fall can be some of the best cruising, less traffic and still beautiful.  Tell us your plans!  We love to hear what PSGBOA members are doing and even better, lets meet up and share boating experiences.

Save the date:  The 2011 PSGBOA Rendezvous will be at Roche Harbor Marina and Resort, May 12-15.  We will be sending out more information regarding the event, and looking for volunteers to help organize and carry out the fun.

This is an all volunteer association.  We appreciate the support of our members and sponsors in making the event memorable.  Hope to see you there!!

Deer Harbor Summer Gathering Recap!

The weekend of Aug. 20-21, we held a casual get together for Grand Banks at Deer Harbor Marina. We had six boats participate. Saturday night, we convened at picnic tables on the dock, and enjoyed drinks and appetizers. Two of the boats had kids, and all six of the boats had a great time socializing. It should be noted that the next day, parties of Grand Banks owners were touring various boats, comparing maintenance and boat improvements. Everyone had an enjoyable time!! Participants included:

Gizmo 1966 32′
Bonnie Banks 1967 32′
True Love 1973 36′ (Traveled the second longest distance – Texas!)
Sea Spree 1995 42′
Honu 1991 32′ (Traveled the longest distance – Hawaii!)
North Star 1991 49′

Thank you,
Lynne Thompson, Norm Hubbard, Grant Hubbard and Chookie

SUMMER CRUISING UPDATES

Hello to everyone in the Grand Banks Community!

I hope you are having a fun summer and getting out on your Grand Banks.

For the fourth of July, PSGBOA had their first informal get together in the south Sound.  If you missed it, you missed a very good time.

We had four boats join up and others were in the area. During the weekend we were all able to take care of the world’s problems over a few bottles of wine and some great food. Bill and Brenda Davis had some great Maine jokes and Marshal and Shelby were great hosts, inviting everyone to their 42 Europa. The fireworks were fantastic as always.

Our next outing will be Aug. 21/22 at Deer Harbor on Orcas Island.  If you are planning to go, get your reservations now or plan on being on anchor.  Lynne Thompson and Norm Hubbard, aboard the North Star, will be snagging a picnic table and drinking wine on the docks on Saturday night.  Bring a cocktail and join other PSGBOA members.

We’d like someone to volunteer to be the informal hosts of a get together Labor Day weekend at Poulsbo.  Anyone interested?

Most of us boat in the winter.  Does someone have an idea for a winter get together?

Check out the link on the 2010 Rendezvous Wrap Up page for Lynne Thompson’s fantastic talk on “Organizing Boat Records”. It is available online, in a pdf format so we all can access it, save it and or print it.

A Thank You from Don and Debbie Leu

Not sure if this is the place to post this but THANKS to everyone for a wonderful Rendezvous!!! It was our first, we are new boat owners, and it certainly will not be our last!

Cheers,

Rendezvous 2010 Recap from PSGBOA President – Bill Douglass

Hello everyone.

We just finished enjoying a fabulous rendezvous at Roche Harbor and enjoyed seeing all of you who made it.  Over 80 boats and 200 people spent a relaxed time in the sunshine catching up with old friends and making new ones.  Highlights of the weekend included wine tasting and hors d’oeurves on the dock, a “margaritaville” themed party with whole roasted pig, movie night for the kids (lots of kids this year!), and a cat and dog show (without cats), among many other activities.  We enjoyed great presentations, Grand Banks discussed their plans for the future and asked for our input, and we all had a chance to get acquainted with the new crew at Grand Banks NW.

A couple of things need some follow up:

I want to correct an oversight in that we forgot to thank NW Explorations for providing a boat for the Women on the Water training – they have been very generous in their support of the PSGBOA with boats, money and time over the years.  They are a huge part of our community.  Be sure and thank them when you see them.

I have also included an e-mail from Bill Washburn at Nobletec concerning what is going on at that company.  Many of us use this product and were aware that Boeing (and its subsidiary Jeppesen) had recently sold the company.  In response to what this might mean for GB owner’s Brian Pemberton at NW Explorations called the people at Nobletec to find out.  It turns out that the sale is a good thing for users of Nobletec as the company now has owners who are focused on the boating market – click on this link: Nobeltec memo

As an example of the kind of help that we get through the PSGBOA and the  people at the Rendezvous let me relate the following; I pulled the canvas off of my STIDD seat on the flybridge (a wonderfully comfortable  seat for those of you who haven’t had the experience) only to find that it had deteriorated over the winter.  This was urgent since our boat is in charter service with paying guests on board Monday after the rendezvous.  I mentioned my problem to  Jerry Todd at Grand Banks NW who immediately put me in touch with Fred Minor at STIDD Systems, Inc.  Fred not only addressed my problem by sending me new seat cushions overnight but he covered them under warranty!  That is fabulous service and deserves our attention.

Special thanks for Greg Richmond for doing an outstanding job as Rendezvous Chair this year.  Lynne Thompson will be our Rendezvous Chair for 2011.  She will be communicating with everyone soon.  We have already reserved Roche Harbor for the same weekend in May in 2011 so mark it on your calendars.
